The concept of ‘work’ – and what it entails – plays a pivotal role in our politics, economics and personal lives. Yet, the exact definition of work and its boundaries are rarely discussed and scrutinised.
Join us for interactive discussions on its boundaries and definition, including the role of care and art, with three expert speakers: Emily Kenway (author of ‘Who Cares: The Hidden Crisis of Caregiving, and How We Solve It’), Kester Brewin from the Institute for the Future of Work (author of ‘God-Like: A 500-Year History of Artificial Intelligence’), and Zarina Muhammad of radical art critics The White Pube (co-author of ‘Poor Artists’).
We will discuss questions such as:
- Should we expand the concept of work beyond the bounds of paid employment, or, instead, push back against its contemporary dominance?
- Should care count as work? What are the implications either way?
- Is art ‘work’? What can art tell us about the sense of purpose we want from our lives?
Snacks and refreshments will be provided.
