Unit 38 Summer Party – Fundraiser for Leeds West Indian Centre

Fundraisers & Parties

🌞 Join us for Unit 38’s Summer Party! πŸŒž

A little later than last year, but summer’s not over until we say it’s over!

Come shake off the carnival blues, catch your last summer whine and help us raise funds for two important communities in Leeds and Rochdale.

We’re raising funds for Leeds CAC CIC (formerly the West Indian Centre) to improve their building and help resist encroaching developers, leaky roofs and noise complaints. The space is an important symbol of black resistance in Chapeltown, Leeds, and needs to be preserved for the next generation.

πŸ”Š CARNIVAL SOUNDS // HAND-BUILT SOUND SYSTEM πŸ”Š

– Hipsters Don’t Dance, bring a vibrant fusion of soca, afropop, dancehall, and club music to the dance floor

– We have our man from Leeds, Claude Hendrickson MBE, starting off the night with the finest dub and reggae

– more TBA

🦾 AS ALWAYS – EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED – SURPRISE AT 10PM!Β πŸ€–

Pay-what-you-can* tickets in advance, more on the door. No one turned away for lack of funds, but no guarantee of entry after midnight.

It gets busy, so get down early!

*It’s an honesty box, so to the wealthy of you who should know better: we see you – and we judge!

Accessibility info:

– The event space is level throughout – the bar, dancefloor and smoking area are all on the ground floor, as well as one accessible WC.

– There is a quiet space available throughout the night, with lift access

– We sometimes use strobe lighting on the dancefloor.

We work with Safe Only Ltd, a queer peer-to-peer welfare service. If something or someone is bothering you, look out for a member of the team – they’ll be wearing a pink hi vis. They are a lovely bunch, and trained to offer non-judmental advice, assistance and harm reduction.
