Lola Olufemi, Countering Fascism

Talks & Debates
Black event poster with white text titled "Whose World? Whose Future? Whose Hope?". Includes phrases "Critical Fabulation for Polyversal Futures Pt 2 - Countering Fascism" and "Lola Olufemi". Location: Pelican House. Date: Saturday 12/04. Time: 2:30PM.

This intervention will explore the place of materialist speculative practices in the fight against fascism – specifically how speculative methods might help us ideologically counter fascist attachment to the notion of an ideal past and right reproduction, as expressed in and through the cultural sphere. It will examine the feminist tradition to demonstrate the necessity of anti-fascists to rethink, reorder and unsettle the events which construct this ‘ideal past’ to bolster their theoretical and physical confrontations with fascist forces. This event invites its audience to think alongside the speaker to consider both the benefits and limitations of this approach.

This event is part of Whose World? Whose Future? Whose Hope? Critical Fabulation for Pluriversal Futures, a public research series that brings together contemporary thinkers and artists whose work promotes abolitionist, anti-racist, anti-fascist, and anti-imperialist visions for articulating and actualising alternative worlds and futures.

The series is curated by Lilly Markaki and supported by the Humanities and Arts Research Institute at Royal Holloway, University of London.
