Recently returned to print with their Spring 2025 Special Issue, Variant’s broad collection is a well-timed contribution to the critical interrogation of culture and its conditions. A chance to hear both about the project’s history and direction over the last 30 years, and the impetus behind this latest volume, we are excited to host an evening of readings and discussion on this new issue, which is available online now at variant.org.uk.
An attempt to reckon with the contemporary composition of the sector and the prospects of radical, worker-led transformation, our forthcoming issue of Notes From Below – Dispassions: Class Struggle in Arts and Culture – draws much energy and orientation from Variant’s own approach, and we will hear from contributors to our latest journal on overlapping themes of work, organisation and struggling in the ‘creative economy’.
