ABOLISH RENT: How Tenants Can End the Housing Crisis!

Talks & Debates

Join Tracey Rosenthal (co-founder, LA Tenants Union) for the London launch of her new book, Abolish Rent! Tracey will be in conversation with Nick Bano (author of ‘Against Landlords’), and Siobhán Dhònnchaidh (London Renters Union) asking how we can resist landlordism, fight for rent controls and win a world without rent or landlords.

Across the globe, tenants are rising up against a system built on profit, eviction, and dispossession. From London to Los Angeles, our struggles are linked—and so is our fightback.

Following an action-orientated discussion in partnership with London Renters Union, we’ll have a social to create space for organisation!

Speakers:

Tracy Rosenthal – co-founder of the USA’s largest tenants union (LA Tenants Union) and co-author with Leonardo Vilchis of ‘Abolish Rent: How Tenants Can End the Housing Crisis’. The book charts astute analysis and striking stories of resistance from raucous marches against gentrification, and daring eviction defenses where immigrants put their lives on the line – to show us how tenants can, through organizing and collective action, harness their power and win the housing they deserve.

Nick Bano – is a tenants’ rights and homelessness lawyer, who has supported the tenants movement for many years through legal advice and solidarity. He is the author of the pivotal ‘Against Landlords: How to solve the housing crisis’. His book is the case for why building more housing will not solve the housing problem, laying the blame squarely at the feet of profiteering landlordism.

Siobhán Dhònnchaidh – is a member of the London Renters Union and has been a tenant organiser and housing campaigner for close to a decade both in Manchester and London.
