Brazilian Theatre of the Oppressed practitioner, Geo Britto will lead a three day Theatre of the Oppressed workshop at Pelican House in London. This will culminate in a performance at the International Marxist conference Historical Materialism at SOAS, University of London.
The Theatre of the Oppressed is the dramatisation of class struggle. It reveals exploitation, ideological contradictions and points to possibilities for liberation arising from organised collective action.
In this workshop, you will become familiar with new games and techniques based on the work carried out by the People’s Theatre School (ETP), Brazil with favela inhabitants and grassroots movements in Rio de Janeiro.
We will work with Brecht’s & Boal’s techniques, which we use in our anti-fascist, anti-imperialist struggle. This workshop brings our anti-fascist principles and imangination to life. It will take place on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th of November 2026 from 10 am to 5 pm and final Performance of the play on 4 November at 5.30 pm at Brunei Gallery, BG01 SOAS University.
