Films4Freedom and The Learning Co‑op invites you to a fundraising screening of “The Small World of Don Camillo”, directed by Julien Duvivier.
Set in a sleepy town residing in the Po Valley, this beloved classic tells the story of a catholic priest and a communist mayor who discover through quarrel and care what unites them is far greater than what divides them, birthing a genuine reconciliation between faith and communism rooted in a shared commitment to dignity, community and liberation. Against this honest solidarity, today there stands a resurgent far right once again cynically co‑opting crosses as an aesthetic shield for cruelty, only together can we expose the fascist masquerade of piety as the hollow lie it is.
“The catholic who is not a revolutionary is living in mortal sin.” – Camilo Torres Restrepo
To understand this fight we must also understand the language of the land. The Learning Co-op is proud to host both group and 1-1 Italian classes for those keen to learn the language and open new worlds, a form of resistance through education.
