Join Nijjor Manush for a screening and discussion of the film ‘Chittagong’ to mark the anniversary of the Chittagong Armoury Raid which took place in April 1930 in modern-day Bangladesh.
Inspired by the 1916 Easter Rising in occupied Ireland, the Chittagong Armoury Raid was a daring attempt by a group calling themselevs the ‘Indian Republican Army’ to seize arms from colonial armouries, sever communications links between colonial authorities and Chittagong, and to advanced militant struggle against the British in India.
The film retells the story of the raid from the perspective of one of its youngest protagonists who, alongside other militants, would go on to participate in India’s communist movement.
